TRANSPORT AND TRAVEL INFORMATION

TRAVELLING TO MILAN

There are two airports in Milan.  Linate, the smaller of the two, is mainly used for domestic and short-haul international flights, due to its proximity to Milan.

Malpensa International Airport is farther away from the city centre (45-50 minutes travel time to the city centre by taxi - can be longer during peak times).  The Malpensa Express departs from Terminal 1 for Milan every 30 minutes. It also stops at Milan Bovisa and Saronno stations. The bus service is located outside the Terminal 1 Arrivals area and they reach Milan in about an hour.   For further information, please refer to the airport website: http://www.sea-aeroportimilano.it/en/

Milan has a very good transportation system and it is quick and easy to get around the city. It is run by the Azienda Trasporti Milanesi or ATM (tel: + 39 (02) 7252 4360); website: http://www.atm-mi.it/ATM/eng/

The metro, bus, tram and trolley bus have a special ticketing system.  The service operates daily. The metro has three lines: the red MM1, green MM2 and yellow MM3. The Tickets must be validated in the SITAM machines on-board buses or at the metro stations. This makes travelling in the city very accessible.  Passes, valid for one or two days, are available for purchase from ATM Railway Offices at Cadorna, Centrale FS, Duomo, Loreto and Romolo.
Taxis are also readily available.  They are generally white and can be booked in advance or hailed in the street.
