The Course is jointly organised by the Divisions of General Thoracic Surgery University of Bern (CH) and University of Pisa (I).

Cardiac - 4-5 February 2009
Thoracic - 6-7 February 2009

REGISTRATION OPEN HOURS

Registration will be open in the in the IRCAD building as follows:

Wednesday 4 - Friday 6 Februay 2009  08:30-10:00
Saturday 7 February 2009 09:00-12:30

Certificates of attendance will be available on Saturday 09:30-12:30 on receipt of completed course evaluation forms.

LUNCH AND REFRESHMENTS

Lunch, coffee and tea will be available and will be included in the registration fee. 

CME ACCREDITATION

The EACTS Course on Cardiac and Thoracic Robotic Surgery will apply for accreditation.

OFFICIAL LANGUAGE

The official language of the EACTS, and the Course, is English.

PASSPORTS AND VISAS

Check passport and visa requirements in due time before you leave.  Passport-holders from countries in Western Europe (EU) as well as from North America and Australia do not need a visa to enter France.  All other nationalities will have to contact the French Embassy in their country for detailed information

OFFICIAL LETTERS OF INVITATION

Letters of invitation required to meet the administrative and legal regulations of some countries are available to participants upon written request to the Executive Secretariat.  Please write your name and address clearly, in order to ensure an efficient reply.  Such letters should not, however, be construed as a financial commitment on the part of the Organisers.

CURRENCY AND CREDIT CARDS

The currency in France is the euro.  Most hotels, restaurants and shops accept internationally valid credit cards.

INSURANCE AND LIABILITY

All participants are encouraged to make their own arrangements for health and travel insurance.  Neither EACTS, or EATCS, can be held responsible for any personal injury, loss, damage, accident to private property or additional expenses incurred as a result of delays or changes in air, rail, sea, road or other services, strikes, sickness, weather and any other cause.

The European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS) cannot accept any liability for death, injury, or any loss, cost or expense suffered or incurred by any person if such loss is caused or results from the act, default or omission of any person other than an employee or agent of EACTS.  In particular, EACTS cannot accept any liability for losses arising from the provision or non-provision of services provided by hotel companies or transport operators.  Nor can EACTS accept liability for losses suffered by reason of war including threat of war, riot and civil strife, terrorist activity, natural disaster, weather, flood, drought, technical, mechanical or electrical breakdown within any premises visited by delegates and/or partners in connection with the 2nd EACTS Course on Thoracic Robotic Surgery, industrial disputes, governmental action, regulations or technical problems which may affect the services provided in connection with the 2nd EACTS Course on Thoracic Robotic Surgery.  The EACTS is unable to give any warranty that a particular person will appear as a speaker or panellist.
 

TRANSPORT AND TRAVEL INFORMATION

TRAVELLING TO STRASBOURG
Strasbourg is centrally located at the crossroads of other major European cities; only a few hours' drive or roughly less than a one-hour flight from Paris, Lyon, and neighboring Swiss and German cities (2 hours drive from Frankfurt). Strasbourg is easily accessible either using motorways, planes or trains.
By Air
The Frankfurt airport is located 220km from Strasbourg (2 hours drive).  Strasbourg can be reached via Frankfurt.  The Lufthansa shuttle bus is available from Frankfurt airport – journey time approximately 2 hours (www.lufthansa.com).

The International Strasbourg-Entzheim airport is situated 10 km away from Strasbourg city center (15 minutes).
Several daily flights are available between Strasbourg airport and Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport (www.airfrance.fr).

By Train
Strasbourg, one of the major railway stations in France, is connected by direct links to numerous cities of France (Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Nice, Montpellier, Nîmes, Lille).

Strasbourg is also situated at the crossroads of big international routes and also benefits from quality links with numerous European cities (Brussels, Luxemburg, Basel, Bern, Zürich, Stuttgart, Munich, Saarbrücken, Salzburg, Vienna, Milan, Rome, etc.).

By Car
The French motorway network: westbound and northbound, the A4, A34, A31 and A32 motorways give easy access to Strasbourg from Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels, Luxembourg, and Bonn via Metz and Sarrebrück. Southwards, the axis Strasbourg-Mulhouse, and the A36 intersection of the A6 motorway of Beaune open routes heading to Italy and Spain.
The German free motorway: it gives access to Hamburg, Frankfurt, Basel, Geneva and Milan; it is less than 15 minutes from Strasbourg via Kehl.


Strasbourg Public Transport Network
The network is composed of 23 bus lines and 4 tram lines giving access to the whole of Strasbourg area.  The "Relais-Tram" parking lots provides you with the possibility of parking your car next to a tram station and gives access to the city center within a few minutes, without being bothered by heavy traffic and scarce parking spaces.
