For the first time, the International Cooperation Committee of the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery is organizing one of our popular Applied Science meetings outside of Europe, targeting the aspiring cardio-thoracic surgeons and related specialists in Africa. The faculty, all selected scientists and practicing cardiothoracic surgeons, will present a series of interactive lectures and seminars, addressing important questions which all young clinical researcher will face at the beginning of their academic and scientific career, like organizing research effort, getting published, presenting their research, and developing critical attitude when faced with the enormity of present professional information and scientific literature. Some aspects of the course will be also specifically tailored to Subequatorial Africa, with its predominantly untapped reservoir of unpublished material about lesser known diseases and specific problems of cardio-thoracic surgery in the developing countries.
